From time to time, we hear stories from new clients about other window cleaners they have used. Common grievances including the window cleaner not turning up, leaving streaks all over the glass, not wiping up, scratching the glass, being rude or inconsiderate and sometimes abandoning the job or customer.
While there are some window cleaners who are like this, there are also quite a few reputable window cleaning companies to choose from. What then should you look for?
One baseline requirement for any business today is adequate insurance, including public liability insurance and workers compensation insurance for employees and contractors. Most shopping centres and bodies corporate require policy cover of $20 million for public liability.
Police checks for staff are also very important. We look after many aged care and NDIS clients, and their plan managers and coordinators routinely ask for updated national police checks as part of their compliance requirements.
Positive reviews and word-of-mouth count for a lot. This is one way of confirming that a window cleaner or company has the experience and expertise they claim to have. As a rule, most general cleaners, for example, do not have the expertise required to clean windows to a high standard. A business focusing on windows has chosen to specialize, and the results speak for themselves.
A good-sized team is another factor worth keeping in mind, especially if reliability matters. A one-man-band operation may falter if your window cleaner gets sick or chooses to prioritize something else, but a business with several employees can usually absorb any changes to availability.
Finally, a good window cleaner is usually one who is uniformed, well-presented and greets you with a smile!
